MEMORIAL DAY 2013

GOOD MORNING WORLD

There will be parades today all over this country.  The parade where I am will take no more than 20 minutes to pass by.  It is not large and filled with spirit just the same.  I remember marching in the same parade years ago.  Not a long walk and yet carrying a french horn it seemed interminable.

There will be family picnics and BBQs all over this land of ours.  We celebrate the men and women who protect us so that we can enjoy the festivities free from harm.  Today is a day of thanks to our men and women in the service of our country.

Rather than write for hours on something we all share I thought I would find some pertinent articles to share with you.

The first is the Mission BBQ place in Glen Bernie Maryland.  They have the best BBQ they believe.  Having lived in North Carolina, Tennessee and Missouri I can tell you for certain there are others who would disagree with that statement,  In fact “Memphis is May” is all about the best BBQ.  There is a winner too so not sure how Mission BBQ can claim best.

What they do and do specifically well is to honor those in service to our communities and country.  Every noon they stop what they are doing and play our National Anthem.  Those in uniform eat free on 9/11 and two other designated days.  It is quite a story and can be found with the links below.

Another story I heard this past week was about former President George W. Bush and his 100K bike ride at his ranch in Crawford Texas.  This is not the first year he has done this.  It is the first year it was done on his ranch.  You can read about this at the link below.

There was a reunion dinner held for POWs at the Nixon Library this weekend.  It brought back POWs that were honored 40 years ago in the same way.  They tried to recreate the event as much as possible even seating the men at the same tables they sat at 40 yrs ago.

On this day I am thankful to live in the greatest country in the world.  Freedom would not be free without the men and women we honor today.

…..ONWARD TO MORE MISADVENTURE…
