Yesterday I told you that I watched all the Sunday news shows.  I learned a bunch of things and I call that a good morning.  I love learning and information.  I believe I have shared that often.  I also believe I have shared my distrust of the current government led by President Barack Obama.  Another President said, “The Buck stops here.”  On Sunday former Senator liberal Democrat Dennis Kucinich said it best.  He said, “The tone is set from the top.”


I learned that the ARB report on Benghazi was a report about the Security before and up to Benghazi not the whole incident.  I believe we have been led to believe that the ARB report was a review of oversight of the whole Benghazi attack through completion.  It was security alone.

I learned that if it is not heard on network news it may not be real.  FOX News has been following Benghazi since Sept.11, 2012.  It was not until this week when Jonathan Karl of ABC broke the news of the 12 talking point versions that Benghazi was important at all.  Steve Hayes of FOX had reported a timeline in the Weekly Standard a few days earlier.

I learned and knew actually on 9/12/12 that Mike Rogers Chairman of the House Intel Committee called this a terrorist attack.  I saw him do this in a Fox News interview from the House.  He did that in 9/12 before the administration did.  He never veered nor blamed a video.

I learned that former Senator Dennis Kucinich, a liberal Democrat, said that Benghazi was a “failure of policy”.  When asked if the talking points were scrubbed he answered, “Of course they were.”  He went on to say that this “had an impact on the 2012 election”.

Jonathan Karl of ABC said there is a “credibility issue with the White House”.

General Petraus said of the Benghazi Talking points that “I would just as soon not use them but it’s their call.”

There were three questions that concerned George Will, a newspaper columnist, journalist and author.  He gave the questions and answers.

Q. The security  A. was lax.

Q. The Rescue   A. doubtful.

Q. Were we mislead  A. certainly!

Many of the people on the panels believed there was much evidence of more than just scrubbing the talking points.  Cover up was mentioned often.  Even Sen. Diane Feinstein said we “should have moved faster to call it an attack.”  When asked if she could see political motivation she said, “It is hard for me to tell.”  I was surprised she did not simply say no.

Most poignantly Ambassador Chris Stephens’ mother was the most eloquent when she hoped Hillary had a nice Mother’s Day as she had her child with her.  She said she has heard from no one since the incident and they told her it was a video.  She is now angry.  I wonder why we are not hearing as much from her as we did Cindy Sheehan?  Both lost their sons in war.

NOTE:  I wrote extensively about this on Sept. 29th in a ‘Thank you to Special Report and Brett Baier’ of Fox News who were on this from the very beginning much like the reporters during Watergate.  They gave a very definitive timeline of when the word terrorist was used.  Hillary first used it on Sept. 13 and Jay Carney on Sept. 20th.  The day of Sept. 12th Obama referred to ‘acts of terror’ not being specific and in fact later that day in a “60 minutes” interview clearly said he was not sure and did not want to rush yet.  He blamed the video up until Sept 25th at the UN!!!

Yesterday Obama referred to the talking points issue as ‘politically motivated sideshow’.  Corrupt or Inept?  The buck stops at his desk.


When asked about the IRS scandal Kucinich said it was “not tolerable”.  He said “The tone is set from the top.”  This was referencing the IRS scandal as Doug Shulman, the head of the IRS and Bush appointee, had testified before congress that they had absolutely been no targeting.  If Kucinich thinks the IRS top sets the tone and lies occurred wouldn’t that also translate to the current Oval Office?  I wonder if this impacted the 2012 election as well.

Mike Rogers form the House Intel committee said the IRS issue ‘should send a chill up your spine”.  It needs to be investigated by and “external” authority and “fact based”.

George Will commenting on the IRS scandal asked, “How stupid do they think we are?” He went on to read item #1 of Article #2 of Nixon’s Articles of Impeachment remembering that this is the 40th anniversary of the Watergate summer.

No one was talking impeachment.  Nixon was not impeached.  Articles of Impeachment were drawn up however.  George Will was simply making a comparison. When I went to look for the item to post I decided to include the beginning part as well instead of just #1.

Yesterday Obama spoke about the IRS issue in a presser.

“But I’ve got no patience with it, I will not tolerate it and we will make sure we find out exactly what happened on this.”

Being so vocal I wonder if we will be audited soon?  Making a note here just in case.  Taxes from this house are nevere fudged – not even a penny!!!


Much discussion was about the ‘Red Line’.  Remember I called it pink and fuzzy?  The best quote was about a parent moving the line they set when they raise their children.  Finally the kids do not believe there is any punishment at all.  Due to the slowness of our willingness to act it was a general belief that few other countries seem to be interested in our policy in Syria.


The Justice Department is getting phone info from the AP news without going through the proper channels??  It has just begun.

Sunday I was feeling refreshed that real news was available.  We were no longer being fed the White House Wheaties.  We were being offered a full meal deal finally!  Disagreement over issues is upon what our America is based.  Get it all out there and let we the people decide.  I feared that was not done before the 2012 election.  It appears in a number of areas sadly this could be true.

Yesterday the President was mudding the waters again by trying to use hit and run quick comments.  President Obama your false outrage leads many of us to believe there is a ‘there there’!





I sat in church this morning reviewing the last few days.  Yesterday was my day to be 12 and sad for a few minutes as I yearly get caught in the ‘what ifs’ of life.  I acknowledge the day, what I lost, wonder what could have been for a few moments then move on choosing to be happy as ever.  This morning I wondered as I sat in church with the sun streaming through the window like a beam directly from heaven coming to the altar what we would be like if we were servants to each other.

The Separatists that came to this country to create a new country and be free to live their faith as they chose.  As they landed they created the Mayflower Compact.  The modern version without the flowery verbiage is below.  As I read this it is calling them all to work together and order themselves for the general good of the colony.

When the Founding Fathers put forth the Declaration of Independence they again reiterated in the preamble the ‘all men are created equal’ and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights’ of ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’.  This document also calls forth the right to throw off government and establish new.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

The Preamble to the Constitution once again tells us we have the rights to work together and form a more perfect country.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,[note 1] promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The Bill of Rights in its preamble calls forth for the congress to work together.  I believe we are so far from all of these in this country today.  We are still a young nation.  We learned and corrected ourselves over and over again.  Negroes were freed under Lincoln.  Women were given the vote under with an Amendment.  We learn and move forward for the good of all.  We serve each other as we serve our country.

For the life of me I cannot understand why we are creating slavery again.  It is there and those who are allowing themselves to accept it are choosing bondage not freedom.  Why are we not serving our fellow man by helping him find his own way?  Why are we not encouraging work and self-reliance?  I have no answers.

Why are we not serving each other by creating standards that our students must reach?  Why are we lowering those?  Does it serve a person not to have to reach a goal?  Does it serve them to simply give them what they want to sustain their life?  I see our country slipping and others are now passing us in education, goals, challenges and purpose.  We are accepting less.

I would rather our country turn back to serve each other.  Not give or carry along.  I see serving as helping others reach their own best!

The Definition of servant is one that serves others <a public servant>; especially : one that performs duties about the person or home of a master or personal employer.  The definition of service is an act of helpful activity; help; aid: to do someone a service.

The definitions connote hierarchy.  I do not believe that was what was intended in the beginning of this country back in 1620 or further.  While there will ever be people who have more than others either from inheritance or hard work we do not need to deride them or hold other people down either.

We are created equal.  We all have the same opportunities.  We all need to tap that in each other.  We need to find the passion to serve and help others up the way our faith based country did in the beginning.  No one – man or woman – is better than anyone else.

Christ said follow me.  He called us to service by doing unto others as you would have it done unto you.  Service to help and willingly becoming a servant for our fellow man not to our fellow man can be very humbling.  In my utopian world serving each other is a better way of life.

This morning the television still works.  The news is on and I am hearing that the current resident of the White House did in fact sign the Sequestration. The sun rose.  The sky is blue.  The squirrel is still stealing the bird seed from the feeder.

The White House told us that we would lose jobs, services – well their own words:

“Terrorist threats, they don’t go away,” Napolitano told reporters Monday at the White House. “We’re now dealing with the emerging cyber security threat. I say emerging – it really is here. We have huge responsibilities which are somewhat new, and Mother Nature doesn’t go away because of a budget cycle. So we have to deal with all that simultaneously.” – See more at:

White House rolls out the cabinet members to warn of cuts

I wrote extensively about how the White House came up with this idea.  In fact the President said he would not sign any bill unless these automatic cuts were in there back in 2011.  How owns it.  It is his and now he is calling everyone else dumb.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama blamed Republicans Friday for the failure of Congress to reach an agreement to stave off the automatic budget cuts known as sequestration, calling the cuts “dumb” and “arbitrary.”

“At a time when our business has finally begun to get some traction, hiring new workers, and bringing jobs back to America, we shouldn’t be making dumb, arbitrary cuts to things that businesses depend on and workers depend on like education and research and infrastructure and defense,” Obama said. “It’s unnecessary, and at a t when too many Americans are still looking for work, it’s inexcusable.”

I told someone and posted on facebook that I believe this administration is acting like the Keystone Cops.  I was reminded the Keystone Kops did not know what they were doing.  The President knows what he is doing.  According to his own words this man has said he wants to ‘transform America’.  Perhaps Sequestration, the 1.2% reduction in already increased spending, may be the first step to restoring America to what our Founding Fathers wanted us to be all those many years ago.

I am tired of this man and his lack of transparency.  I thought it would be fun to be more involved in current events and writing about them.  This morning I find myself simply worn out from the vitriol, lies and manipulations.  He says he is not a dictator.  Perhaps that really is what he wants to be.

I am weary following the President’s deceptions.  Perhaps it is these darned symptoms of stuffy nose and headaches that have set in that are getting to me.  Hopefully my spit and vinegar will return.  While I am a small voice and tired it does not seem right to give up now.




I was riding home from Costco the other day and listening to talk radio and Rush Limbaugh said, “How do you know if it is true?”  I said right out loud, “I was going to write about that tomorrow.”  Do not think Rush heard me.  By the way before you ignore me due to my listening choices you might want to check out how often this man has been correct in his voiced opinions.

How do we know what is truth anymore?  Does everyone really lie?  Sadly a lot of people do.  I only trust what I can hear if the speaker is saying the words and those I double check.  For instance Nancy Pelosi did tell us ‘we had to pass it before we could read it’.  Truly what kind of logic is that?

Our President has been caught in multiple lies and still is the President.  In fact he was voted back into office despite the lies he told.  I hear you out there “what lies?”

1- we could keep our healthcare – we cannot if an employer does not offer it

2- there were no ‘death panels’ – there will be non- medical people deciding whether we need a treatment

3- it would save us money – it is going to cost anywhere from $2500 up per family

4- he said it would not pay for abortions – it does

5- he called them terrorists from the beginning – he did not specifically for over 14 days


Sen. Harry Reid accused Mitt Romney of not paying taxes.  He ‘heard it from a reliable source’.  Romney documented paying millions in taxes.

Wasserman-Schultz lied during the DNC about who intervened to get God back in the platform.  Stephanie Cutter lied. I documented that at the time as well as other lies.

I watched Bill Clinton lie.  I watched Martha Stewart lie.  I watched Richard Nixon lie.  I watched TV anchors lie.  I am sure that probably others have lied as well and I just did not see them do it.  I am documenting what I have seen.  How can anyone believe anything that is happening now?  How can we know what is true?

Our current President sold the world on green energy and it has cost us financially.  Solyndra lost money went bankrupt and now has billions in refuse of which it needs to dispose itself.   Other green energy business have gone out of business costing America.  The green energy cars have been a flop despite the amount of monies spent on them.  He told us this was the way to a better world.  He told us again in the State of the Union.  Is this true?  It wasn’t for Solyndra so why are we listening again?

During the most recent campaign the Republicans lied as well as documented by Robert Reich in an opinion piece.

I do not understand why people do this in this day and age of the computer as they can easily be fact-check or reviewed to find the truth.  The thing is we are getting to be like the boy who called ‘wolf’.  When do we believe?  Who do we believe? Hillary Clinton said all Bill’s problems were from a vast right wing conspiracy.  Are conspiracy theories how things are running?  Is everything a conspiracy?  Is there no clarity?  I do not see it.  Our truths are being clouded until it is almost hard to know what is real.  That is a bad place to be I judge.

This past week an ex-cop from California, Christopher Dorner, is a hero to some as he believes he has been wronged by the Police Department.  So he kills police officers?  This makes him a hero?  Is this not a little warped?

The Pope has announced he will step down on February 28th.  An interesting decision in modern times.  Already some are asking if he is doing this to escape situations that exist in the Vatican.  How do we know?  Can we not trust that he has prayed and decided this is the direction God wants him to take?

Finally we hear that Hillary Clinton called someone the night of the attack in Benghazi.  This truth, if it is from Leon Panetta, puts a whole new spin on her words “What difference, at this point, does it make?”

There are those that say and try to show that the Newtown massacre did not happen.  I saw some of the videos and it can leave one asking questions.  Are the facts real or distorted?  Where is Walter Cronkite the one news man we trusted for years?

Where is truth in our news?  Is there none?

There is a word we need to understand truth with exaggeration or spin?  Where is the whole truth and nothing but the truth?  When are real reporters going to go back to digging to find the truths?

I am eagerly waiting and until that day will be searching TV, newspapers and the web to find truth.




This morning is a cold foggy bleak day. It is a Monday and I like rainy days and Mondays so will take this day and enjoy it!  I have been up for awhile.  The surprise of the morning was the doorbell ringing at 7:20.  I discovered the USPS was delivering packages early.  Glad I was not still in bed!  Neither rain nor slow nor early morning evidently will stop the mail.

I checked emails and facebook looking for a topic for this morning.  While I fully intend to explore the traditions of the season further it seemed a little redundant to do the same today.  I came across a ‘plague’ on a friend’s wall.  It said,

“The only people who are mad at you for speaking the truth are those people who are living a lie.  Keep speaking the truth.”

Well that has tantalized my brain as being a fully loaded statement.  What is truth?  I am certain philosophers have been and will continue debating this for eternities.

I went to the web of course.  I found the definition:

I found quotes from the Bible to Johnny Cash song ‘What is truth?’

John 18:38  –  “What is truth?” Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.

As I looked through the notations it came to me to wonder is there a definitive truth anymore?  There is black and there is white and there is gray.  It seems to me that these days we are living in a lot of grey and calling it truth.  Even in the color there is no definitive spelling.  Did you note I used both?  Both gray and grey are acceptable as spelling of the color!  Trivia of the day.

Back to truth.  For me truth is that abortion kills a baby.  I do not understand how anyone can see it any other way.  When a sperm enters an egg, the egg is altered to become something different – a baby.  Argue as you will this is scientific the sperm and egg joining create a baby.  Now perhaps you do not believe there is life there which is your truth.  I am not so smart so will accept that the meeting of the sperm and egg create life in the baby, the name for the new organism that was created by the joining.  If we can accept all the other processes of the body as truth why not the process of reproduction?  Cancer for instance creates tumors in the body, new organisms and not good of course, and still they are living organisms inside of us.  For me life at conception is truth.  An abortion kills a baby.

Truth is you cannot spend more than you take into your accounts.  Does anyone remember taking basic accounting in high school?  It was part of our math courses.  The out column had to be justified by the in column.  Both balances at the end had to agree.  What about this does our government not understand?  Yet here we are trying to make a deal to spend more than we take in once again.  The President and his promises have been depicted by Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown.  In my life I do not believe she has EVER not taken it away.  What makes anyone think that the President will keep his promise to cut spending after he gets what he wants.  He has kept few promises.  He is in his office less than any other President has been so how is any of this getting done?   Even Democrat Erskine Bowles of the commission says we have to cut spending. Truth is you cannot spend more money than you have or have coming into your budget.

Truth is if we tax the rich they are going to move someplace else.  Check out the migration of California to Texas and Maryland to Pennsylvania when taxes were passed in those states that taxed the wealthy at an extreme rate.

Truth is if we do not get our act together as a nation we will quickly look like Europe.  Millionaires in France are being taxed at 75% and what is happening.  They are leaving the country.  Who will pay the bills now?

Truth is we cannot sustain our entitlement mentality and be a successful Republic.  You cannot spend more than is coming in as I said above.  If we have people in need of entitlements then we have a need to support them.  When entitlements cost more than we can tax then we need to re-look at how we are giving our money away and to whom.  Including countries.  We cannot give and give and remain fiscally responsible.  I am not talking about Social Security or Military – they are earned sums.  I am not also talking about people who are really in need.  I am talking about abuse.  Truth is if the programs were audited and abuse removed solvency might be quick behind.

Truth is you cannot lie and think it will not ever come back.  Obama said “Osama is dead and Al Quada is on the run.”  Half truth.  As it is coming out now Al Quada is growing in many areas of North Africa.  Truth will come out now that the election is over.

Truth is a funny thing.  I worked very hard in 1964 for Civil Rights and racial equality.  Now the truth is that we may have reached a reverse spot.  Black people are part of our country and our families.  As a nation we finally acknowledge their wonderfulness and contributions to our world.  I had the sense that we were blending and equality is a reality.  Now I am hearing Al Sharpton, Samuel L Jackson and other wealthy prominent black people speaking against whites.  Slavery was wrong and I believed we had faced that truth and rectified it to unity.  What is going on now?  Truth is I do not understand.

I used to sell cosmetics.  I discovered that black women had as much trouble finding the best match for their skin color as we white women did.  The colors of foundation I carried were a whole array of beauty – from an alabaster to a dark rich deep black.  I knew and was affirmed by this experience that color is only skin deep.  Martin Luther King said it best when he spoke of character.  He said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”  Isn’t that a truth we can all live by today?

Abortion, politics, race – think I have covered all the untouchables in the discussion of the politically incorrect truth.  Fairly heavy topics.  Think I’ll stop the infusion of energy coffee and relax and go wrap some Christmas gifts!








Before I began writing on this issue today I went back to my face book page to see if I had made any comments that could be perceived as ‘in your face’ kind of comments after the election.   I was very clear, pointed and vocal before the election which candidate I supported and used my wall to point of the flaws in the other.  I try to only use facts .  I also try to not use bad language or sarcasm.  From Wednesday to Friday I had been re-posting other peoples words and comments more than adding my own words.  I commented that I did not believe that the next four years were going to be any different than the last.

I have been as clear and outspoken with my thoughts and feelings in my blogs.  I do not believe that any of the two that I wrote Wednesday or Thursday used ‘in you face’ language.  Nor was I belligerent as I was full of confusion and lacked understanding about the results of the election.  I was not feeling sour grapes.  I was scared and frightened about what was coming.  I tried to go upbeat and hopeful and move on to what comes next.

Friday I received an email and was excited with the address as it was from someone I thought loved and cared about me – perhaps it was an anniversary greeting?

The subject said:

The link took me to Barack Obama standing to speak – I had seen the same on television on Tuesday.  I sat there reading this email and realized it was intended to not so tongue and cheek point out to me ‘We won.’  I assumed it was to be funny .  It was only snide.  I already knew this.  Since the disappointment of these results I have felt such sorrow for our country.  As the cock-eyed optimist I see not much good coming.  This person does not read my blog and is not on facebook so this was out of left field.

More than this was my feeling of gut punch from this person.  It wasn’t a pleasant greeting for me to receive at this time.  They had no idea what I was feeling.  I have held them in high esteem all my life.  I listened to them.  I often told people who made fun of their ideas that while this person was one who might dream wild, they could make dreams come true.  They worked hard to do that.  They taught me to tithe which we still do while I do not think they do any longer.  I would’ve given a part of my body for them if I had to and have helped them out financially.  When I am sad about our country and trying to move forward I got this garish email.

I responded with the following words I had not said out loud or in print before not even on facebook .  Unfortunately I was terse and sarcastic to hide my hurt:

…..are you really serious? You got your wish. Who are you going to blame now? You will own the Catholic Church losing it’s freedom of religion if the lawsuits are lost. You will own the $5+/gal gas that is coming. You will own the $2500 already in effect increased rate for insurance and the increases in insurance rates that are to come. You will own the destruction of the second amendment that is already being tampered with in the UN issue. You will own the layoffs that are to come – 1700 already announced yesterday in St.   Louis at Boeing. You will own the manufacturing that does not come back to the USA. You will own the destruction of the coal and the people who will be pushed into poverty due to that. You will also own the deaths of the four in Libya as this unfolds to be the incompetence of this administration – but hey – it was a good speech I imagine…..did he have a tear in his eye here as well?? Would not know as I didn’t watch it – I voted for freedom of choice for all Americans and the pursuit of happiness not regression into government slavery!!!

I emailed back, owned my feelings and said that I did not find any of this funny and was insulted and hurt at the insensitivity of it all.  What more can one say?


Today’s scripture was about the ‘widows mite’.  It speaks about men of the law who devour the widows’ houses.  It reveres the woman.

Mark:12   The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

What does this scripture have to do with all the above in the journal section?  To me it speaks of kindness and giving.  It speaks of love and sacrifice.

What doesn’t it speak about?  It does not speak about taking by taxation.  It does not speak about adding financial burdens onto those who cannot afford it.  It does not speak of generosity above law.

We in this country are already moving back to where we were before Nov. 6th and even further back than that if the job situation is any indication.  Thursday a number of companies announced lay-offs.  It is the opinion of many that the companies had been waiting until after the ele3ction to hire or fire.  Boeing in St.   Louis announced 1700 lay-offs.  They plan a 30% reduction in their managerial staff by the end of 2012.  USCellular is losing 12% of their 8400 workforce.  Vesta Wind Systems is trying to find an investor for 20% of their business at the same time reducing their workforce by 3000.  There are more.  The listed some I mentioned and more and printed a list.

A layoff is tough enough for employees to deal with, imagine hearing the crushing news that your office is shutting down just before Thanksgiving and Christmas… Here are some of the business closings that were announced in just the past two days:

Check it out.  They list 20 companies including some Targets and KMarts all over the country that are closing.

This country before the Great Depression had conditions that included failed banks and uncertainty with those that survived.  The stock market declined and crashed.  As economic realities took hold people stopped spending money and purchasing items.  Items were not produced and the workforce was reduced accordingly.  People not working cannot pay their bills.  The unemployment rate rose.  As business began to fail the government taxed imports more.  Our relations with foreign countries were strained.  (Benghazi speaks to this at this point.  With David Petraeus stepping down we may learn more that is unsettling.)  It seems to me that our country now is not dissimilar to then.


Since the election I have been full of sorrow for the path that was chosen.  I was so involved in trying to get a different result that it is hard to know what to do now and how to handle the sadness and the fear I am experiencing.  I have tried to be upbeat in my blog to offset this.  The email I received was like pouring salt into a wound.  I am fearful for America.  I pray for the resilience that so often pulls us through.  As hurricane Sandy is teaching us, the government does not function well taking care of peoples need’s.  A quote from a survivor of  Sandy says it all.  They said, “It is never the government, it is the people who will take care of themselves.”

As for the person that sent the email and the people who re-elected our President, I hope all goes well.  Our government will continue in gridlock for some time I fear.  Eventually taxes will go up.  It occurred to me that just as this person taught me about tithing, perhaps every legislator could be required to give away 10% of their own money before they are allowed to spend ours?  Emailer, you are right you won.  You can no longer blame George Bush as through your choice you do truly own it now.  The next time you want to plague or tease someone perhaps you ought to know your audience better.

As for me, I am ashamed by my terse response.  I am upset that I responded so poorly with words I had not wanted to say in that way.   I will have to live with that.  I still prefer the role of the widow and freely giving that with which God has entrusted me.  As for God I believe He transcends political party affiliation.  May God continue to Bless this wonderful Republic.




Today is the big day and the first result has a tie.  Dixfield Notch, NH voted last night at midnight and the vote was 5 to 5.  In the rest of the country 30 million have already voted.  Let the cheering begin.

Dixfield Notch, NH has been the first to report their results, voting begins at 12:00AM election Day.  This is a tradition that began with their railroading history.  Since 1948 when the vote was at 7AM the voting has been early so that people working for the railroad would not have to take off unpaid time from work.  Then began a race with a nearby town, Hart’s Location with 35 voters, to be the first to report results.

What more can be said about this race?  The discussions are all done.  Tonight or even early tomorrow we will have a President once again.  When you think of it the process we go through in this country it is wonderful.  While not without strong language it is without violence, despite the Black Panthers standing in uniform monitoring at a polling place in Philadelphia in 2008 and today.   One day we have one man as a President and the next day, if there is an incumbent, it could be the same man or another.  No guns no bombs quiet and orderly.  God Bless America and the wisdom of those who went before us.

To fill out the page this morning I decided to look at the superstitions and folklore surrounding our elections.  Growing up in Maine I heard “As Maine goes so goes the nation” my whole life.  This has now switched to Ohio.  It is said that no one can be elected President without winning Ohio.

Another little tidbit that I found was the sports items.  There is the “Redskins Rule”.  For those not sports minded the Redskins are the football team – Washington Redskins.  This rule has predicted the last 17, out of 18, White House winners.  The rule is that if the Redskins do not win their last home game before the election that an incumbent will not hold the White House.  The Washington D C Redskins lost to the Carolina Panthers 21-13 in their last home game at Fed-Ex Field.

The next concerns the actual date, November 6th.  Since 1860 when Abraham Lincoln won election only Republicans have been elected on this date.   The most thorough information I could find about this was on  Check it out for yourself for the full article at:

Starting in 1792, states had a range of dates on which to conduct presidential elections, but in 1845 Congress standardized the date so it would always be the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Since then presidential elections have been held on dates ranging from November 2nd to November 8th with each date coming up about six times in a fairly regular pattern. There was another curiosity that said that a Senator cannot be elected President.  That of course has been debunked in our history with the elected of Sen. John F. Kennedy and Sen. Barack Obama.

There is also a superstition that before the election of General Grant in 1872 that a man that used his middle name could not be elected a President a second time.  This was an interesting tidbit for me as I did not realize how many Presidents used their middle names.   There were 7 that had and/or used their middle names that were not re-elected.  They are: John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison,  James Knox Polk, Rutherford Birchard Hayes, James Abram Garfield, and Chester Allan Arthur who were not reelected. Grant, who interrupted the pattern after Polk, may have eluded this by only using his middle initial.  It gave me pause to wonder had President Kennedy lived would he have been re-elected?

You have to love Trivia!  I am certain there is more out there that I have not found.

I was asked recently what I was going to write about when the election was over.  Since my blog is eclectic I am certain there will be much more to fill the space.  If Barack Obama is re-elected I have no worries as we have not yet the full information about Libya.  I also will scrutinize Mitt Romney to see that he keeps his promises.  By the end of 2009 there were a number of books already out with facts and figures about how Barack Obama had not kept his ‘first day’/’first year’ promises.  It must be no different for Mitt Romney when he becomes President.

As the votes are being cast and counted I am feeling like a kid on Christmas morning waiting for the best gift ever with a Romney win.  I really do not believe I will be disappointed.




I get the biggest kick out of people who complain about our government.  Well we all do at one point.  I am talking about the ones that complain and when asked – did you vote they say NO.  I have taken to telling them then they have no right to complain.  Our ‘constitutional right’ of complaining comes when we execute our constitutional right to vote.

As voters we are hiring a person for the job of President of the United States.  Both of the candidates meet the requirements.  So who is the best choice.  When hiring a person one looks at the resume and other factors.  We of course want to hire the top talent and we have gone through a process to find the best two candidates.

I believe the interviews, resume screening and search are completed as we have President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney vying for the job.  The candidates are now openly describing their skills so that first bullet is completed as well.  It is for the employer – the American People –  to now make assessments to see if the candidates are motivated by ‘a company’s values and ways of doing things’.  We can also judge if they have the skills and abilities to do the job.  So let’s look as clinically as I can.

Candidate Romney believed in a structured bankruptcy with private funds and govt. guarantees.


Candidate Obama pushed through a partisan government run insurance plan Obamacare.

On Nov. 6th we will all hire the man we believe can lead America for the next four years.  I believe we need a man of character and strength and I believe that man is Mitt Romney.  I have not been quiet about this fact.   I voted in 2008 and that gives me the right to complain.

I have been critical of our current President.  He has given me much of which to criticize.  I look to a candidate running for office to keep his promises as an act of character.  The President has kept few.  His most recent acts call his character back to mind for me.  In Benghazi there was much confusion. I am not sure a clear picture is out even now almost 2 months later.  The one thing that is blatantly obvious from what we do know is that the President knew what was going on and for weeks he and his staff were not truthful about the incident with the American Citizens – his employer!  Another item is his response to Sandy – he was there in one day!  It took him 7 days to get to the JoplinMO disaster, 14 days to the oil spill in the Gulf and ignored the flood in Tennessee. Hurricane Sandy happened the week before election day.  You make your own decision on these character points.

One of my favorite quotes is “Character is what you do when no one is looking.”  I want to hire a man to run our country who is a man of character and believes in service to country and others.  Mitt Romney is a man of character.  I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.

We are hiring a man to run the United  States of America.  Let these, their own words, speak for the candidates.


Candidate Obama said this week that ‘Oh no don’t boo – vote.  Vote. Voting is the best revenge’.

Candidate Romney said this week that we must ‘…vote for love of country’.


If you want the right to complain about how President Romney runs the country you must vote Nov. 6th!




Last night Bob Schieffer was the moderator for the last Presidential debate of the 2012 election cycle.  He had before him the man who ran the country for the last 4 years and the contender.  The question is which man is going to be the President of the United States?

I found myself thinking this is rather a boring debate considering the last two outings of these men.  Then I sat there and purposely listened and watched.  As I have said in many posts listening is more than hearing the words.  It takes into consideration the attitude and tone of the speaker of the words.  The fact checkers will take care of the actual information.

The fact checkers have already done their jobs.  There were a few major areas that were called into the discussion.  One was Romney’s defense of his auto industry bail-out stance.  Obama said Romney never said he would use government funds for the auto industry.  This is in fact wrong as in an op ed Romney did have a line about government loan guarantees.

The second quite loud interchange was the discussion about education in Massachusetts.  President Obama insisted that the improvements happened before Romney became the Governor.  In fact Gov Romney created the changes with his legislature during his term.

There was the ‘apology tour’ and mention of us not being a leader to which the President disagreed and the fact-checkers say the President never said he was sorry on the tour he took to the middle East.  The UN has also said that the US has had a leadership role.

The one that hit me and made me wonder who actually was running this country was President Obama’s demeaning attitude as he mentioned that the Navy is different than it was:

“You mention the Navy, for example, and the fact that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets. We have these things called aircraft carriers and planes land on them. We have ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines.” He added, “It’s not a game of Battleship where we’re counting ships, it’s ‘What are our priorities?’”

Last night during the debate I understand a Marine tweeted that the Marines still used bayonets. I would offer the following for President Obama’s edification.

Commuters streaming out of the PATH train station at the WorldTradeCenter in Lower Manhattan on Wednesday morning may have spotted the shrouded newcomer:
a 16-foot-tall sculpture of a Special Operations soldier on horseback. The statue is a memorial to the troops who led the American invasion of Afghanistan in response to the Sept. 11 attacks on the trade center and the Pentagon.

It is quite something so I hope everyone checks the info about this statue out.  It gives one pause to think that the President is unaware of a large bronze statue of a horse soldier.  Wonder if he is aware we used them in Afghanistan?  

The President told Gov. Romney that “Everytime you’ve offered an opinion you’ve been wrong.”  President Obama told Romney he was misinformed and ‘the1980’s, they’re now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because, you know the cold war has been over for 20 years.’ 

Romney said: “Attacking me is not an agenda .”  He also said, “I have clear eyes on this. I’m not going to wear rose-colored glasses when it comes to Russia or Mr. Putin, and I’m certainly not going to say to him, I’ll give you more flexibility after the election. After the election he’ll get more backbone.”

Those were the words and many have said that the debate was won by President Obama.

Language is more than just words.  Language is body speak as well.  Pundits have described President Obama’s face at times as smug.  His tone was demeaning and patronizing.  They said he was rude and insulting.  I saw this as well.  He was motioning almost as much as Joe Biden did. 

Mitt Romney on the other hand sat with a small smile on his face as he listened.  He had his hands clasped in a pose of a counselor listening.  When he responded he was measured as he spoke.  It appeared as if he was trying diligently not to be drawn into an argument.

President Obama reminded me of a scrappy kid on the playground with his hands up challenging his opponent to a fight.  Mitt Romney looked like the opponent with his hands in his pockets watching the little scrappy guy and deciding whether to engage or go. 

I saw two very different people on that stage.  One was a Chicago ‘brawler’ and the other was a Massachusetts ‘preppie’.  Having grown up a ‘townie’ I will choose the ‘preppie’ every time as they are usually better educated and smarter!

Years ago TONI, a beauty product that put a permanent wave into straight hair had a commercial that asked the consumer to judge between two models.  One had a permanent wave and one had naturally wavy hair.  The commercial asked, “Which one has the Toni?”  I would ask which one on the stage last night will be our President?




I watched the Biden-Ryan in great amazement.  I knew who Paul Ryan was and had a small idea of the moderator.  Who in the world was the ‘other guy’?  I thought Joe Biden was going to show up for this debate.  The man that was sitting there looked eerily like the Joker from Batman.  Seriously did you catch it?  When he was in a major grin, which was often, the shape of his face was almost the same triangular shape as that of the Joker in the Batman comics.  It does not give me a warm feeling that the Joker is a heart beat away from running this country.  I think I was okay when I thought it was Joe Biden.

The debate physically had an interesting setting.  I am used to podiums with debates.  Sitting next to each other seemed to have set the scene for familiarity.  What is it they say about familiarity that it breeds contempt.  If that is true then the setting certainly was enhanced with Good Ole Joe’s antics.

I believed debates were filled with respect and decorum.  That thought was shattered on Thursday by Biden’s actions.  He guffawed, laughed, interrupted and acted for the whole 90 minutes.  There was one and only one place that I saw truth and that was when he was talking about his first wife and the accident.  With that exception I believe Joe Biden was acting a role in a play.  He was ad-libbing and playing the part of a good ole boy who knew more than this young pup next to him.  He was disrespectful and ridiculous.  One pundit said he believed he was supposed to act aggressive though not like a clown.  I believe we saw the clown.  Never in my life would I ever anticipate calling our Vice President a clown.  His actions on Thursday lead to no other conclusion.

I listened to all the pundits on the 11 hour drive I had yesterday.  It is reported that Joe Biden interrupted 80+ times.  I am thinking that if they were at podiums this might have been easier to moderate.  He used the word fact over 26 times in various ways.  He outright lied and gave misleading information.

He said, “We did not know…”.  It was just the day or two before that Ms Lamb testified on Capitol Hill that they had been watching the raid on Benghazi almost in real time.  There had been no protest about a video.  If Joe Biden had been aware of what was going on in his world he might have known that some one knew.  If it was not he and the President then we are in real trouble. 

He said the middle class below $1 Million would have no tax increase.  The number his administration has been using is $250,000 I think.

He said the recession fell out of the sky with a great flourish of his arms.  I was interested in fact checking this.  It has received much play on facebook by those who support Obama as a real high point.  The facts behind this are a little fuzzy for good ole Joe.  He said ‘they’ put two wars, a prescription drug benefit and a trillion dollar tax cut for the wealthy on a credit card.  The fact, Joe’s favorite word on Thursday, is that it was not ‘they’.  Good Ole Joe voted for both wars.  He also voted for a prescription drug bill just not the one that was signed into law.

He said that Mitt Romney said that it would be a good idea to have GM go into bankruptcy instead of rescuing it.  The fact is that Romney said that it should go through a private financial restructure.  That means using private funds not public.  GM was bailed out with a public restructuring using OUR money.  Same thing happened only difference was public vs. private monies.

Lastly he said that Obamacare did not discriminate against the Catholic Church.  Paul; Ryan’s answer was spot on.  The Government is being sued by the Catholic Church exactly due to this fact.

Good ole Joe has been in our government for over 30 years.  Living here in the Delmarva Peninsula we hear much about Joe and his service as the Delaware News Journal is the major paper.  He has taken or did take the train everyday from Wilmington,DE to DC. A conclusion could be made that perhaps he has stayed at the party a little too long.  His antics on the stage on Thursday show a little too much of a happy warrior.  It was a borderline display of a resident of an in-patient mental center.  Buffoon, Brilliant or Boorish – you decide.

The Scriptures are dead to many people in this day.  For me as I have shared often the Scriptures are alive.  The one that surfaced yesterday says it all and I believe shows the Bible is real for all times.

Proverbs 29:9 – “When a wise person debates a fool, the fool rages and laughs and there is no peace and quiet.”




I have not had many political posts of late.  I have no idea why.  I am still interested.  I am still involved.  I watched the RNC and hope to catch what I can of the DNC.  Certainly the speeches by Biden and Obama.  Perhaps my lack is that I was too involved watching the Convention.  

I thought this was a very well run event.  It appeared that most things were on schedule despite Isaac.  I didn’t get to hear much before 8 or 9 o’clock at night.  I was really pleased to meet and hear more from the people we do not see often.  The Governors were terrific.  I was already crazy about Chris Christie and his efforts to do what he said he would do in NJ.  I liked Nike Haley and Jan Brewer as well for standing up for their states.  I had not heard much about Gov. Martinez and thought she was a real role model.  I thought that Sen. Marco Rubio was electric in his introduction of Gov. Romney.  The thing that struck me most was the positive focus of the whole thing.    

One of the lines that Mrs. Romney said was about Mitt Romney’s generosity.  She said he ‘…sees service as a privilege, not as a political talking point.’  That was such a telling insight into this man in his private life.  The other part of the convention that was real was the series of testimonies by people that Mitt Romney had helped.  He supported and cared when no one was looking.  It was nice that the opportunity availed itself to have this shared.  The Olympians as well were empowering for the Romney-Ryan ticket too.  It was a great convention.  Now the work begins.  The tearing down has already begun.

I want to turn from the issues and look at the men running for the highest office in the land.  I want to look at their character.  I believe we know more of Mitt Romney’s from this convention.  I am also certain that more will come out.  He does not drink or smoke or do drugs.  Presidential candidate Mitt Romney received no salary as an intern in the governor’s office for eight years, as state president of his church for ten years, as president of the Salt Lake City Olympics, and he only took a ceremonial salary of $1 as governor of Massachusetts.  He gave away his father’s inheritance. 

I make note that I am only writing facts here not opinions.

What of Barack Obama’s character?  By his own words he said, “I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years.  Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it.  Not smack, though.  …”

There has been much controversy about Barack Obama’s life. He did attend the schools he listed.  The thing I could not find was any information about extra activities he might have done to help others.  I know his aunt lived illegally in Boston for years.  I believe he helped her stay in this country.  That was quite public as I remember.  What of his brother George who lives in a hut in Kenya?  I wonder if there are ‘good deeds’ from his years as a community organizer that might come out.  Perhaps the DNC will bring more light into the character of our sitting President.

My favorite quote is, “Character is what you do when no one is looking.”   I believe we need a man of character in the Office of the President to lead us.




I want to thank those who commented on the July 1 post.  I really appreciate your positive feedback.  I also need to thank our daughter.  I went away last weekend to a world where there was no cell service, TV or computer access unless you were very high (as on the top of a mountain) or had permission and password to access someone’s wi-fi.  I discovered after arrival that the wi-fi was not easily available.  With great difficulty and the help of a knowledgeable teen, we got messages to my daughter to access my blog and post my already pre-written drafts.  Then through her enthusiasm I was posted twice in one day.  Luckily we got wi-fi for a couple of hours one morning and I was able to write yesterday’s blog for her to post.  Had not ever thought when I began this year’s project that I might be away.  So now that this is set in case this situation should ever happen again, I can relax and write away as I choose. 

All the positive comments that I read brought into focus the negativity that can be experienced in life.  It is extremely (not a sport for sure) for me to deal with negative people.  You have them in your life I am sure.  Nothing is ever right.  They belittle others and many of your thoughts are wrong or have no basis in reality.  It is wearing and tiring.  I believe that at times I have been and can be one of these people.  I am trying (and have been for awhile) to make a conscious effort not to be so.  I believe for the most part of my life I have been upbeat and optimistic and maybe that brings out the negativity in others.

Recently I was in the company of a person who was continually negative.  The feeling I had at times when comments were made was like two same poles meeting.  I had that feeling that there was an opposite pushing against each part of a magnet.  At times it was tension filled and very uncomfortable.  Being one who rarely is at a loss for words I found it difficult not to strike back when I was the recipient of caustic remarks.  I am also sensitive.  I had to rein this in as well as the tears that were quickly coming to my eyes.  Finally in a casual conversation when I commented on Dr. Oz and something I had read about a tea he believes is good for us, I was told he was a charlatan. I had to say something.  I came back with that I thought he was a real Dr. and a successful surgeon.  The comment was how did I know that?  I had to say I believe his open heart patients when they say so.  Someone else spoke up then and I left the situation.  I seems that there is little positive spoken from this person – or at least toward me – and I am sad for that.  From my vision I believe this person is very blessed.  I can only hope he/she sees it.  I must say I am proud of me for not saying what was in my heart when the hurtful things about my blog (why would anyone care what you say) or being a writer (you have to take a course) came my way.

Positive or negative, it got me to thinking further about our political process.  How do you accentuate the positive and still win?  John McCain tried it and failed.  He did not speak in the negative about Barack Obama.  I believe that may have been in part due to his race and the newness of running against the first bi-racial candidate.  He did mention his record, while seemingly ignoring his background.

Each candidate needs to put him and his views forward so that we want to vote for him over the other.  At the same time it is necessary for each to point out the differences in their platforms and way of governance.   It is also important to point out the facts that do not agree with what each candidate did or said previously.  For example how do you speak about President Obama if you are a Romney voter without pointing out President Obama’s promises and whether he kept them or not.  In Mitt Romney’s case, he is looking to take the job away and how do you discuss his career without pointing out his successes or failures as well.  Is it positive or negative?  In this case is the negative okay?  If we do not know both sides of all issues how can we decide? 

I believe we need to be smart and investigate everything we can about our candidates.  For this we rely on news, TV and internet.  It is up to us to sort the positive from the negative.  Maybe it simply comes down to the facts.  If it is a documented negative then it cannot be argued?  It is okay?  If it is a negative slur against the person or his family it is not allowed?  I am still pondering this.

What I have gleaned from all of this rambling this morning is that I am normally positive.  I am going to continue to live this way.  I may not bounce around as quickly or as easily as I used to do – I still will be positive.  I used to sing “Good Morning bright sunshine good morning to you” to our children to wake them up.   I will continue to do that now for my grandchildren and also continue to ignore any pillows that may come my way!!!      





When our children were little they had a show called ‘Schoolhouse Rock’ that would send information and snippets about our government across the airways. Anyone remember this:

And I’m sitting here on Capitol Hill.

It’s a long, long wait
While I’m sitting in committee,
But I know I’ll be a law someday
At least I hope and pray that I will,

If you remember the tune you are old like me!!!  The picture accompanying this little ditty is a rolled up piece of paper with a ribbon on it.  The cartoon character proceeds to tell the Boy in the piece that a lawmaker comes up with an idea and writes a bill.  Then it shows them arguing over it and the Boy comments on that.  The Bill, the name of the paper roll character, answer that he is lucky as most bills do not get this far they die in committee.  Then Bill says it looks like he is going to live so he goes to the House of Representatives.  If the House votes to keep him the bill then goes to the Senate he tells the Boy and the arguing and discussing begins again.  Bill then explains that if he passes the Senate he still may not make it pass the President’s veto.  Very informative for the kiddos and even their mother though I knew this from history.

So then the question arises – why are the Republicans being blamed for the stalling that is going on inWashingtonD.C.  Our President had a super majority – that is both houses of Congress held a Democrat majority – for the first two years of his administration and could have passed anything he wanted if all the Democrats were on board with it.  As of 2010 the Republicans have a majority in the House.  The Senate still remains a Democrat majority.  Perhaps we need to go a little further to understand.

What the Bill did not go into is the fact that nothing comes to the floor of either house of Congress unless it is put on the agenda.  The agenda is set by the Speaker of the House or the Majority Leader in the Senate.  Any bill that makes it to the floor in the House and passes may be stopped in the Senate if it never gets on the agenda.  In the case of the Congress that is sitting at this time Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada is in charge of setting the agenda for the Senate.  For a bill to move anywhere it needs to be on the agenda.  Once the bill gets to the Senate floor discussion and hopefully compromise occurs.  If discussion leads to a yes consensus then the bill goes back through the whole process House and Senate for a final approval on that which was previously reached.  If it does not reach consensus it is dead on the Senate floor.

The Speaker of the House, Rep John Boehner, is in charge of setting the agenda there.  He has spoken over and over again about 30 bills that the House has passed and Sen. Reid refuses to put on the agenda for the Senate.  There seems to be a disagreement about the number and the Democrats say they have taken up three so the number is 27.  Regardless, how can anything get done if there is no discussion?  Sen. Reid has not brought a budget to the floor of the Senate in three years.  The Republicans forced him to bring President Obama’s 2012 Budget to a vote.  It was defeated 99-0 after the House had defeated it 414-0.  The movement of much of our Congress seems to be stalled in the Senate.  While the Republicans do not have a majority,  they do have a tool called a filibuster that can stall and stop Senate business.

 On top of all of this is the further question of leadership.  It is my understanding that a good leader gets his people together on a regular basis and listens and guides and empowers.  Does not a good leader help bring information forward and guide people to see each others points?  Are we seeing that from our President?  Are we so polarized that we cannot see each others points.  We do not necessarily have to agree.  We can listen and look for ways to compromise if we meet.  When was the last time he met with the leaders of Congress?  Aren’t  these meetings supposed to happen on a regular basis for the good of our country?  In the last few days our President has issued an executive guideline to alter arrest procedures of Homeland Security and invoked executive privilege on document sour Congress wants.  How can the Republicans be faulted?  Is it the House’ fault?  They are having committee meetings.  They are passing bills?  How can they be at fault if the Democrats under the guidance of Sen. Reid are not doing the work required of them?  The question then remains who are the obstructionists at this time?  Perhaps I am missing some big part of the understanding of how our government works?  Perhaps it needs to work together?

I had no idea how topical I was until yesterday.  I use this blog just to dump things out of my brain and on to paper for musing of myself and any who may choose to follow.  And lo and behold and Bless their ‘little pea-picking hearts’ (Thank youTennesseeErnie Ford) MSNBC helped me look smart.  No sooner had I posted my treasure of the day, I caught wind of the curfluffle with Andrea Mitchell.

It seems MSNBC posted a submission about Mitt Romney.  Let me set the scene as I am not uploading the video.  Andrea Mitchell, a pundit of MSNBC with her own show,  is speaking with some man (did not get his name) and chuckled and showed this clip of Mitt Romney being amazed over a machine at WaWa that allows you to punch in what you want in your sandwich and VOILA the sandwich appears.  After the clip was over Ms. Mitchell chuckled again and said something about it being his WaWa moment.  My take from what I saw is that she thought Mr. Romney foolish and way out of touch with the WaWa people of this country.

First off let me say that until I moved toMarylandI had no idea what a WaWa is.  It is the same as a Cumberland Farms inMaineor a Fox on the Run inMissouri.  It is a convenience store with a gas station.  I had no idea they had such a machine and you have to know I am going to go to my local WaWa to try it out!!!

Secondly, yesterday I was commenting on the concerns of relying on one news source alone.  Had I relied on this MSNBC broadcast I too would have thought Mr. Romney not one of Main Street America’s people.  While I am sure he does not frequent these places as much as I, I am just as sure that upon occasion he does pump his own gas so would be aware of these stores.

Thirdly is the ‘rest of the story’ as Paul Harvey used to say.  Had this clip been played in it’s entirety we would have heard Mr. Romney speaking about a Dr. trying to get through the system to submit a patient’s bill to the government.  After he spoke this he went into the description of his experience at WaWa.  He ended up with a concise message by saying it would be nice if the government worked as well and treated it’s people as well as WaWa treated their customers or some such wording.  That is a totally different message then the one that MSNBC left us with in that clip.

The RNC and the Romney campaign called MSNBC and told them they had given a poor example of the events of that day.  On Andrea Mitchell’s show at1PMyesterday she said that they had been contacted by these groups and asked to play the full clip.  She played the clip then from the WaWa story to the end.  She left off the beginning about the Drs problem, left this item and went onto the next story with no apology.  One source would have given a very slanted impression of this whole episode.  I am grateful to MSNBC for helping me appear smart or at least topical.




I have been engaged in a running discourse these last few days on Facebook.  The  thread began when I posted a ‘share’ about MSNBC fantasizing about blowing up Romney’s campaign bus.  This went directly, without passing GO, to a post with the question of is this journalism to the fact that MSNBC denigrates conservatives and FOX does the same to Liberals.  Then we were hit with the name calling that comes on both sides.  The thread got very interesting for me when FOX News was criticized for NOT being fair and balanced and my nephew used the Daily Show as a tool to prove that.  Another nephew posted, “I also know that a recent study found that people who rely on foxnews for their info are the least informed americans.”  That hit a spark for this information junkie and off I was on a search to find this study.

FairleighDickinsonUniversitydid a study in 2011 that showed just that.  They called New Jersey people and asked them a few questions on the news and the results were published.  In 2012 they did the same with the questions to the whole country they said, the same to all participants, and found the same results.  As a FOX News watcher this did not seem to ring true.  I searched and searched and could not find a recent study that agreed.  I did however find the ratings for Friday the 15th of June had FOX News as one of the most watched.  I posted those on my wall and concluded that if in fact that is true then there are a lot of uniformed people walking around out in America.

It got me thinking and searching to find definitive news.  My conclusion is that there is no longer such a thing.  CNN may come the closest to fitting the paradigm.  Straight news left us I believe when Cronkite left TV.  I did not know what Walter’s political views were. I knew that he cared about things from the tone of his voice as in the example of taking off his glasses when JFK was assassinated.  Otherwise he read the news with no emotion or opinion.  The same could be said for Huntley,Brinkley, Edwards,Downs and Walters – newscasters of the day.  It is my belief that this is a rare thing on TV anymore – network or cable.  More so now than ever before to be informed it is up to us to find the information. 

Matt Drudge said it best.  He broke the Clinton-Lewinsky story and no one would listen to him let alone print it.  It is said that 11 times the networks ignored what he was telling them.  It proved to be true of course.  He is quoted, “We have entered an era vibrating with the din of small voices. Every citizen can be a reporter, can take on the powers that be.”*  I believe this is exactly where we are right now.  In order to make an informed opinion we have to be our own reporter/journalist/newscaster.

My brother-in-law was right when he posted on the thread that those leaning left listen to MSNBC and those leaning right listen to FOX News.  In saying that we can all listen to it all and we must.  On both there are news shows and opinion shows.  We must know the difference.  While Bill O”Reilly is the most watched show in his timeslot he freely states that he is an opinion show.  He brings in people from both sides and has a debate – unless he has strong opinions about what is being debated.  At these times he can take over the conversation which is his right to do in the format he has set.  It is our responsibility to discern the difference.  Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are loud and entertaining and amazingly right, meaning correct, on occasion.  As I said on my thread we must learn to separate the wheat from the chaff.  There is a lot of chaff out there.

This is where the rubber meets the road to use an old cliché – must do a blog about clichés one day!  If as an audience we only watch one station we are going to get one side.  We are going to vote one way and our discussions will be narrow.  For me I try to be well informed and listen to many things and subscribe to newsletters and websites.  I want to be informed.  Matt Drudge now has one place to go look at many sources with his Drudge Report.  The Huffington Post offers an alternative.  There also are others.  It is up to us to choose.    

We must be informed not steeped in ideology.  From information we can choose to make informed opinions and ideas.  I cannot end this any better than to use a quote from one of our former Presidents:

“If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.” ― John F. Kennedy

Not sure about making it safe.  We can however be informed and listen to each other without rancor.

I have been busy this last 10 days or so and have only heard dribs and drabs of news.  Much of what I heard was about jobs or lack of them.  The unemployment numbers are up.  I did catch – actually watched – the President tell us ‘the private sector is doing fine”.   He went on to say that the public sector needs help.  If I had not heard it myself I would not believe he said that.  Knowing how hard it is to find a job I was very surprised by these statements.

Got me to thinking just what is the ‘private sector’ and just what is the ‘public sector’.  Simple person that I am I looked it up and had answers to both.

private sector – noun-the area of the nation’s economy under private rather than governmental control.

public sector – noun-the area of the nation’s affairs under governmental rather than private control.

Fairly simple.  This said ‘nation’s affairs’.  Teachers, fireman, policemen – all nation’s workers?  In a discussion about this I wondered when teacher’s became public sector workers.  They used to be paid by their schools or the school districts from the area in which they taught.  Assuming that the property taxes paid this bill.  The firemen and policemen were paid from the municipalities which of course is a form of government.  So government is a very large umbrella. 

Then I thought of unions and wondered how many public sector employees are in unions.   Had a hard time finding that answer.  I did find that 12% of workers in theUSare in unions.  Of that 12% the public sector is 37% and teachers are 36.9%.  The private sector workers make up 6.9% of this 12% number.  So was the President referencing these numbers?  It is all very confusing to me.  I am learning. 

Is ‘public sector’ the code word for union employees?  Are there public sector workers that are not in unions?  Oh think I can answer some of that one.  Our Representatives and Senators are public sector workers.  They are not a union are they?  Wait they do have their own special healthcare?  There really is much to learn.

Then I wondered why is the President speaking about job creation.  I did not remember that as part of his job description.  Back to google.  I found his description in – teaches the kids so keeping it simple for me.  It said the following:

The Constitution assigns the president two roles: chief executive of the federal government and Commander in Chief of the armed forces. As Commander in Chief, the president has the authority to send troops into combat, and is the only one who can decide whether to use nuclear weapons.

As chief executive, he enforces laws, treaties, and court rulings; develops federal policies; prepares the national budget; and appoints federal officials. He also approves or vetoes acts of Congress and grants pardons.

I do not see job creation here unless it comes under the budget part.  Didn’t his budget just get defeated by all the members of congress?  Wasn’t this the second or third year his budget was defeated? 

I am going to look more into private and public sector workers – union and otherwise.  If the union is 12% of our workers in the wholeUnited Stateswhy are we paying much attention to them.  There is another whole 88% somewhere and what are they called???  Are they all private sector? Some public sector? Combination of both?  Why are they not being heard?   Didn’t we just have some protests that the 1% was not supposed to be or have more than the 99%?  Then how come we pay more attention to the 12% than the 88%?  Fairness – think I did that last week.  Just asking???
